My life journey, studies and continued professional development are centred on Naturopathy, Herbalism and Nutrition. Learn more about these modalities and how they can support you – read on.
“Herbalism is ecology in practice…
It turns out that the active ingredients in plants are important to the soil, to fungi, and they’re essential to insects. Herbs then are not just for us. In their unique pharmacology, they are a way in which the environment integrates itself – not feels itself, not genetically makes itself, but integrates itself so that it’s not animals and plants fighting all the time…there is mutual support and synergy going on.
The whole really is greater than the sum of the parts.”
Herbalism is the oldest form of medicine – connecting people with plants, the elements, cycles and nature across cultures and time. Herbalism is a lot more than simply replacing the use of pharmaceutical drugs with herbs, rather herbal medicine is a world view. It aims to restore harmony to all aspects of health – mental, physical, emotional, nutritional, environmental, social, spiritual – and life. A consultation with a medical herbalist allows the root imbalances affecting well-being to be unearthed. By evaluating and investigating how and why patterns came about we create space to restore balance and pave a pathway to optimal health.
custom herbal blends
I formulate custom herbal blends based on your constitution and health requirements – mental, physical, emotional, environmental and spiritual. These custom herbal formulas are designed to target specific organs and body systems. By blending herbs with similar properties a synergistic effect is created, making the formula have a very specific healing action.
Herbs move the body’s energies in specific directions and when I make a herbal formula I choose a primary energetic for the formula: warming or cooling, drying or moistening, relaxing or nourishing; depending on what you need. A truly personalised offering.
Herbs in the form of liquid preparations are readily absorbed, involve minimal processing, and truly reflect the chemical characteristics of the herb in a compact, convenient form whilst allowing for dosage flexibility.
As old as healing itself naturopathy today is a people centred, rather than disease focused, approach to healing. At the heart of naturopathy is the principle that nature has the ability to heal and restore balance. It is a non-invasive approach to healing that focuses on prevention, education, empowerment and treating the root cause of disease rather than suppressing symptoms.
Naturopathy’s wholistic approach to healing recognises the inter-connectedness and interdependence of all living things. My approach utilises the most natural and gentle therapies, including lifestyle practices, nutrition, herbal medicine, mineral therapies, homeobotanicals and flower essences to gently restore balance.
“If diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. If diet is correct, medicine is of no need”
ancient Ayurvedic Proverb.
My nutrition approach encourages addition, rather than elimination (where appropriate). I encourage healing with whole foods and real ingredients. Through intuitive eating I teach you to love whole food, seasonal cooking and eating, alongside making simple changes that are easily incorporated into your daily life.
I believe true nourishment extends beyond the food we place on our plates and in our bodies to incorporate how we feed our mind, spirit and environment.
